Intimate Weddings in Prague
A small wedding is not a compromise. It's a deliberate choice — for depth, detail, and real emotion. Here's why intimate weddings in Prague are some of the most beautiful.
When couples tell me they want a small wedding — 20, 30, maybe 40 guests — I often see a kind of apology in their eyes. As if a small wedding is somehow less than it could be. I want to say this clearly: it isn't. An intimate wedding is not a scaled-down version of a large one. It's an entirely different genre. And in Prague, it blooms in a way that nothing else quite does.
What Makes a Wedding Intimate
There's no strict boundary, but I generally consider weddings up to 40 guests intimate. This can range from a true elopement — just the two of you and a photographer — to a warm dinner with your closest people in a private room. The defining characteristic isn't the number; it's the nature. An intimate wedding is built around relationships, not scale.
Why Prague
Prague is made for small, private moments. Its most beautiful corners aren't grand squares designed for crowds — they're the narrow lanes of Malá Strana, the locked baroque gardens, the boutique hotel terraces overlooking a sea of terracotta rooftops. A large wedding simply doesn't fit into these spaces. An intimate one fills them perfectly.
The most beautiful weddings I've coordinated have often been the smallest. Not because less is simpler. But because every detail was visible, every moment was felt, and every person in the room was genuinely close.
The Advantages of an Intimate Wedding
Attention to Every Detail
When you have 25 guests rather than 150, every element can be refined to perfection. Tasting-menu dinners instead of buffets. Fresh florals on every table rather than one statement centrepiece. Personalised place settings with considered gifts. Details that disappear in a large wedding become the whole story here.
Real Time with the People You Love
At large weddings, couples often feel like hosts at a party — greeting, thanking, moving on to the next group. At an intimate wedding you actually sit beside the people you love. You have conversations. You remember afterwards what was said.
Access to Venues That Don't Scale
A small guest list opens up venues that are simply unavailable for large weddings. Private gardens that hold only 30 people. Villas and houses with genuine character. Small baroque halls in the heart of Prague where 120 guests would never fit, but 20 feel like they've stepped into a fairy tale.
Budget Directed at Quality, Not Quantity
The budget saved on catering for 100 additional guests can be redirected toward a chef's tasting menu, a unique floral concept, or the photographer you've been dreaming of. Fewer guests means more room to invest in what remains.
Planning an intimate wedding in Prague?
I specialise in weddings for couples who value depth over scale. Tell me your vision — and together we'll create a day you'll remember not for how many people were there, but for the quality of every single moment.
The Best Venues for Intimate Weddings in Prague
Vrtba Garden
A UNESCO baroque garden in Malá Strana and one of the most romantic corners in the city. Capacity up to 50 guests. Terraced levels, sculptures, a view of Prague Castle — a ready-made stage that needs almost no additional decoration.
Boutique Hotels in Malá Strana and Josefov
Several hotels in these neighbourhoods offer full property buyouts — your guests take over the entire building. A private garden or rooftop, personal service, complete privacy. Ideal for 15–30 guests.
Private Villas and Estates
Within 30–50 minutes of Prague, there are several private villas and country estates available for weddings. A fireplace, a private garden, exclusive catering — the warmth of a home with hotel-level service.
Mníšek pod Brdy Castle
A Renaissance castle with a romantic inner courtyard — one of my personal favourites for intimate weddings up to 50 guests. Less well-known than Dobříš, which makes it feel even more personal.
Restaurants with Private Dining Rooms
Prague has several fine-dining restaurants that open private rooms exclusively for your event. Chef-driven cuisine, a sommelier-curated wine programme, seamless service — and not a single person in the room who isn't yours.
What to Keep in Mind When Planning
- The guest list is the hardest part. A limited number of seats means difficult decisions. The sooner you're clear on your priorities, the easier everything else becomes.
- Tell your guests early and with confidence. A small wedding is a choice, not a shortage. Guests invited into that circle usually feel honoured, not excluded.
- Invest in the food. A tasting menu, a chef's table, thoughtful wine pairings — in an intimate format, the meal becomes a full experience rather than a logistical item.
- Don't fill every minute with programme. The best moments at intimate weddings are the pauses. Time to talk. Time to simply be together.
Do You Need a Coordinator for a Small Wedding?
Yes — arguably more than for a large one. At a large wedding, small slips get lost in the flow of events. At an intimate one, every detail is visible. If something goes wrong, everyone notices. A coordinator at a small wedding isn't a luxury — it's the assurance that the day unfolds exactly as you imagined it.
